Dawn Redwoods (Metasequoia sp.) are a large and fast-growing group of trees which first appeared on Earth during the late Cretaceous period. It was believed they went extinct during the Miocene until living forests were discovered. 
 
These specimens come from the Eocene, in what is now British Columbia, Canada.
